Summary/Objective

The Human Resources Generalist administers or oversees the administration of human resources programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development. The HR Generalist collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organizations goals and strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organizations human resources and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Annually reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of the organization's policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters.
  • Communicates changes in the organization's personnel policies and procedures.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Prepares offer letters.
  • Conducts or acquires reference checks, background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Manages and oversees the administration of all employee benefits programs - health, life, disability, 401K - with the support of brokers and vendors.
  • Leads and supports annual open enrollment for benefits across the organization.
  • Maintains up to date job descriptions.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Develops and tracks structured Performance Improvement Plans to ensure the employee and company's goals are being met.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee's hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
  • Processes Unemployment, garnishments, and employment verifications.
  • Manages PTO, FMLA, COBRA and other leaves of absence.
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Develops and maintains a human resources information system that meets the organization's personnel information needs.
  • Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organizations human resources information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university and three (3) to five (5) years of Human Resources experience.
    • Significant experience in Human Resources may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
    • Human Resources certification preferred (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR).
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resources disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Minimum 2 years payroll experience.

  • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of a timekeeping system will be an added advantage.

Technology & Other:

  • Intermediate MS Office skills; HRIS software skills
  • Ability to learn, implement, upgrade, and use technologies related to Human Resources.
  • Ability to work closely with companies' vendors on Human Resources related matters.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing a HRIS system a plus.
